*Academy First Year Award is for riders who are showing in their first year of competition. For shows that do not offer First Year classes, their academy age division counts toward First Year Awards. Riders must declare whether they are showing as a First Year rider prior to the beginning of show season so that all points go toward that division and not the regular academy age division.

  • Eligibility for Awards

    A. Horses eligible for an Annual Award must be enrolled with the ASHA of NJ for the current year and its owner/lessee, as well as the exhibitor, must be a member in good standing with the ASHA of NJ. Lease information must be documented by lessee/owner at the time of registration/enrollment. Any changes must also be documented to maintain eligibility. The horse must be registered in the owner’s name with the appropriate breed’s registry.

    B. Equitation or Academy riders eligible for an Annual Award must be enrolled for the current year and must be members in good standing with the ASHA of NJ.

    C. Registration: All horses/ponies must be registered in the owner’s name with the American Saddlebred Registry or AHHS, respectively.

    D. Enrollment forms must be received and all fees must be paid prior to showing for points to count. If membership and payment are received during a qualifying show, points for that show forward will be counted.

    E. Once an Academy rider competes in a regular class, they may no longer compete in the Academy Division. All Academy rules apply. The horses must be regularly used in a lesson program as school horses at the stable.

    F. No points will be credited until the entry meets each of the eligibility requirements. Ownership of a horse may be transferred during the year without affecting the horse’s score. A horse may be enrolled with ASHA of NJ in the new owner’s name without paying an additional enrollment fee. Any award will be made to the owner of record (with ASHA of NJ) at the time the horse wins its last point in competition. It is the responsibility of the owner or lessee of record to notify ASHA of NJ of the change in ownership.
